Refurbishment; DDA upgrade

What was our client looking for?

The HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) was looking to refurbish and upgrade
their Finchley Enquiry Centre to DDA standards while remaining open to the
public. With a wealth of experience in this arena we called upon our team
of experts to fulfill the works.

How did we help?

Working in close conjunction with the real estate investors, building
consultants and staff at HMRC, we designed the new office layout to
incorporate all required facilities and functions. In addition to this, we
initiated the DDA lift design concept which involved diamond cutting
through the reinforced concrete slab and forming the external shaft
brickwork from the ground floor to the first floor. A retaining wall was built at
the front of the building to accommodate ramp wheelchair access from
the building to the public pavement.

Our experience and ability to deliver effective room separation came into
fruition when we were required to securely separate between staff and
public areas. All work areas were totally restructured with new flooring,
data-points and energy efficient lighting, ensuring we took full advantage
of the space available to us. Fire, security and DDA alarm systems were also
installed.

To enhance additional facilities, new entrance gradients were installed to
accommodate wheelchair access, accompanied by automated door
entrance systems operated by PIR and push button actuators. We also
undertook improvements to the DDA toilet facilities, bringing them up to the
desired standard.

The results

Through combining innovative ideas with a skilled workforce we have
created a safe, DDA compliant facility for staff and public to enjoy. As
standard, by working closely with all involved we were able to deliver on
time and within budget, much to the client’s delight. In addition, due to
the premises being occupied during the works we kept noise levels and
disturbance to a minimum, ensuring everyone could get on with their daily
tasks.
