Kitchen and bathroom upgrades; Cyclical painting and repairs
What was our client looking for?
Plymouth Community Homes were looking for a contractor who would provide a high standard of finish, consistency in workmanship and value for money. They manage over 16,000 properties, so needed a contractor with the proven ability to successfully deliver their four year cyclical painting programme and six year major works programme which involved replacing kitchen and bathrooms to 3000 of their properties.
How did we help?
MITIE were awarded the two separate contracts because of our proven ability, reputation for quality, and financial competitiveness. The first contract includes all aspects of cyclical painting and repairs work, including internal and external pre-paint repairs, cyclical decoration, timber repairs, roofing, soffits and fascia’s repair and replacement. Our paint partner DULUX independently checks the quality of our work and reports back to the client direct, ensuring we are always providing a top rate service.
The second contract started in 2010 to upgrade resident’s kitchen and bathrooms. Prior to starting the contract we held a People and Partnership day in the Plymouth area for the purpose of recruiting local people and meeting local suppliers. We employed a total of 38 operatives from the local area and have taken on four apprentices to train with our teams. Establishing a local office has also allowed us to work closely with the client and residents to ensure we can provide a responsive and accountable service. Handbooks were produced for residents explaining each stage of the kitchen and bathroom refurbishment process. A dedicated resident liaison officer is always on hand to provide a prompt response to resident queries and keep them informed every step of the way.
The results
MITIE complete over 500 kitchen and bathroom refurbishments a year and has created bright, clean, modern looking estates for the residents of Plymouth. The transformation is the result of the hard work and dedication of our operatives, who have seen the positive impact this work can have on quality of life and community spirit. Our best indicator of success is the feedback we get from residents. Many, like Robert, have taken the time to write to us and express their satisfaction with the high standards of workmanship and the positive attitude of our staff. We recognise that a contract is more than just a list of works; it’s a responsibility to leave behind better homes and communities for the residents we serve. At MITIE, this approach is at the heart of everything we do.
