Bath Guildhall

Services

External redecoration; Masonry; Roof repairs; Pest control

What was our client looking for?

Bath and North East Somerset Council was looking for a partner to carry out
a variety of property maintenance services to the Guildhall in Bath. Through
external decorations, masonry and roof repairs, the Council wanted to
restore the Guildhall to its former glory.

How did we help?

We were able to provide Bath and North East Somerset Council with the full range of services they were looking for, all delivered by our in-house team of experts. Our Facilities Management division was also able to provide the pest control services as part of the contract so our client could benefit from working with a single supplier.

As the Guildhall is in the centre of Bath, ensuring the health and safety of
the public in and around the building was a top priority. The scaffolding was
erected with particular care to ensure none of the public was in danger,
and on the section of pavement that the scaffold covered we built a
covered pedestrian walkway so the public could continue to safely used
the pavement.

There are numerous council departments, services and teams operating
from the Guildhall, including wedding planners, security officers, Councillors
and social services teams. This meant we had to work very closely with the
client to ensure excellent communication about the works to everyone in
the building.

First-class communication was particularly important because the Guildhall
is a public building which holds numerous events throughout the year,
so our programme of works had to be carefully planned around these
activities.

This caused numerous challenges for our team as we had to ensure
that the events weren’t impacted by the works. We made sure that the
scaffolding nets were removed for the firework display on 5th November
and the scaffolding was completely taken down for a visit from the Duchess
of Cornwall to turn on the Christmas lights. Our team also had to logistically
manage erecting scaffolding to the back of the building at the same time
as the Christmas market was setting up. However, the MITIE team took all of
those challenges in their stride and ensured the client was satisfied with our
work 100% of the time.

The results

Despite the challenges of working in this listed, public building, our team
completed a great job without affecting the events being held at Guildhall.
Whats more, this beautiful building in the centre of the majestic City of Bath
has been restored to its former glory.
