What was our client looking for?
Situated in the Scottish Borders, Kelso Racecourse is often described as
Britain’s friendliest racecourse. It offers a packed racing events calendar
that attracts top trainers, jockeys and media from around the UK. As well
as providing breath taking views in a plush green setting, Kelso racecourse
provides top-class facilities for all occasions from weddings to christenings.
In 2012, the course entered an agreement with a major television network
to broadcast live. In time for the TV coverage and in anticipation of the
increased exposure, Kelso racecourse wanted to commission much
needed extensive repair and general maintenance work.
How did we help?
Extensive building and pre-painting repairs were required and the client
wanted an affordable plan that encompassed the repairs, painting
and maintenance. Because of its unique Programme Painting Service,
MITIE was able to undertake the majority of the large scale works in year
one but spread the payment over three years. It was this and the cost
savings associated with having one single contractor to do al joinery,
steel, concrete repairs and painting works, that convinced them that
MITIE was the best partner to deliver the work they needed. To keep the
stadium looking at its best for the duration of the contract, the Painting
team will carry out maintenance and refresher work over years two and
three.
The results
Despite the complexity of the job and the severe weather continuing to
interfere with the works schedule, the team managed to get everything
finished to an immaculately high standard and in time for the broadcasted
weekend race days. This was due in part to the dedicated Painting
team assigned especially to the contract and in part to the exemplary
relationship and communication between MITIE’s contract manager and
the onsite foreman. Thanks to MITIE, Kelso Racecourse was able to get the
work it required at the right cost, without compromising on quality.
