Roof refurbishment; Liquid applied roofing systems

What was our client looking for?

The client needed a specialist roofing team who were approved to use
Liquid Plastics Cold Fusion roofing systems, specifically chosen for a roof
of this size and complexity. More importantly, they needed a team that
they could rely on to work carefully and professionally in an area that
was full of shoppers, day in, day out.

How did we help?

The first step of the project was to remove the existing stone chippings from
the roof. This came to about 300 tonnes of material, all of which had to be
removed from the site and recycled. Recognising that this is a noisy
process, MITIE’s roofing team carried out this work early in the morning,
before shop opening times, so the retail outlets could trade as normal over
this period.

Once the stone chippings were removed, the Liquid Plastics Cold Fusion
Roofing system was installed, starting with new thermal insulation boards
to meet current building regulations. This was followed by the cold applied
liquid roofing system used to cover the entire roof and keep it waterproof.
This material was chosen as it’s versatile and can accommodate the many
complexities of the roof and the extensive equipment installed on it.

Throughout this project, there was a MTR Manager on site to make sure this
project ran smoothly and on time. They also operated as the main point of
contact for the client who was kept fully up to date at all times.

The results

Phase one of the MetroCentre’s roofing project was completed on time
and on budget. In fact, such good progress was made on the first phase
that the project was extended by approximately 2,500m2.
