Roof installation; Bauder green roof system

What was our client looking for?

Wilberforce Court is a newly built YMCA for young people designed by
architect, Geoffrey Sloan Associates. They needed a roofing team to install
a 600m2 ‘green’ roof as part of the new Wilberforce Court development.
As the roof was being fitted midway through the construction period, they
also needed a professional team who could work to set timescales and
work well with other contractors on-site so that other parts of the project
could progress smoothly.

How did we help?

Fitting a green roof is a technical process that requires a specialist team;
the first step was to install the vapour control waterproofing layer. Our
team only had seven days to complete this part of the project before the
Christmas holiday shut down period – a tough challenge, even for our
team of experts!

With the waterproof layer installed on time, the interior construction team
could then begin their part of the project straight after Christmas.
In late January, our team returned back to site to complete the remaining
Bauder roofing system. As part of the project we also fitted new sofits and
fascias to the edge of the building as well as new guttering and downpipes
to effectively remove rainwater. We also fitted a fall protection system to the roof so that others could carry out maintenance work to the AC units
safely.

Our team had to carry out all of this work during some of the worst
weather conditions the UK has experienced in years – heavy snowfall shut
down many parts of the country. Always resilient, our roofing team were
determined not to let this affect timescales.

The results

Despite the challenging work conditions, we completed the project on
time and within budget. Geoffrey Sloan Associates now have a fantastic
new green roof. Better still; it’s an environmentally friendly green roof that’s
contributing to a sustainable future.
