Havebury Housing
Services
Planned works; Repair & maintenance; External wall insulation
What was our client looking for?
As part of a planned works strategy, Havebury Housing Partnership was
looking for a partner to upgrade 91 of their properties. Their overall aim was
to improve the thermal performance of their properties. Not only would this
reduce carbon emissions and help eradicate fuel poverty, but residents
would be able to heat their homes more efficiently and enjoy lower energy
bills.
How did we help?
Having worked with Havebury Housing Partnership on other phases of the
improvement works, they were confident our team would deliver a first-class
job.
As the properties were all built before 1939 and constructed with solid
brick walls, this makes them ‘hard to treat’. Rather than carry out internal
wall insulation, which causes significant disruption to residents, our client
opted for external wall insulation which involves fixing an insulation layer to
the existing wall and covering it with a render coat. With this extra layer of
insulation around a property, residents can save up to £400 a year on their
energy bills – a huge saving!*
During this time the roofs also needed replacing and due to our ability to
provide the full suite of property services we were happy to oblige. We
carried out the necessary roofing works at the same time as the insulation
works. Over eight months, our team are replacing roof coverings, soffits
and fascias, installing new gutters and downpipes, carrying out works to the
chimney stacks and insulating and rendering the external walls on all the
properties
The results
To cause minimal disruption to residents during this project we made sure
that they were fully informed about the works, kept up to date with progress,
and most importantly, understood how the improvement works would
benefit them. Although the contract is still on-going, this project is a great
example of how social housing landlords can improve homes and help to
care for the environment by reducing carbon emissions.
