What was our client looking for?
Aberdeen College was looking for a full property and facilities management solution, which would help to establish an effective Environmental Management System (EMS) to improve the College's environmental performance and to demonstrate its leadership in sustainability to stakeholders, learners, employers and staff by securing ISO14001 accreditation.
How did we help?
The College recognised that, in order to achieve ISO14001, the devised FM plan would need to become part of the College's culture. Through winning the 'hearts and minds' of students and staff, we are providing an on-site facilities management team assisting Robert Bellfeld, the College's Director of Resources and Learning and Gilliam Forshaw, the College's Environmental and Sustainability Manager, to push forward their devised action plan. Our full property and facilities management services address all the main strategy areas of the plan with the main focus for ISO 14001 being on waste and energy management. Other areas of the plan for 'world class' service delivery include maintenance, capital works and cleaning.
In terms of waste management, the College reviewed all waste management arrangements in addition to the storage of waste; this is to ensure that full legal compliance of waste streams is maintained. All waste streams are tracked from 'cradle to grave' to ensure the best environmental options are being utilised for the disposal of waste. This has been achieved through specifying waste to energy options and ensuring all recyclable materials are managed within the UK. We are committed to continually working closely with Aberdeen College to deliver and implement further improvements over the next two years.
