What was Manchester Airport looking for?

Manchester Airport is the only global gateway to Northern England and is operated by Manchester Airports Group. Over 100 airlines offer direct flights to 225 destinations worldwide, connecting over 22 million passengers to more places than any other airport in the UK. With around 19,000 people employed directly on-site the airport required a wide range of ancillary services to support this considerable building infrastructure.

How did we help?

MITIE’s specialist capabilities are brought together at Manchester Airport, through a self-delivery model across a broad range of services. The contract uses a dedicated site-based MITIE team working at eight non-terminal buildings around the airport, providing full facilities management covering hard and soft services. At Manchester Airport, MITIE ensures the most efficient use of electricity, HVAC and lighting throughout all the buildings. Building controls are vital in this kind of workplace environment, so our controls engineers ensure these systems are managed effectively with a view to delivering long-term energy efficiency.

Electrical testing and inspection, and lighting management, is carried out by MITIE’s specialist technical services team. Proper lighting maintenance and regular inspections are essential to optimise the financial investment in lighting. In doing so the airport buildings remain properly illuminated, aiding the smooth running of other important installations like CCTV surveillance.

The results…

Maintaining the airport buildings and grounds surrounding them at a fully operational level at all times, results in a lower rate of unscheduled call outs, maximises energy efficiency through the effective use of building management systems and building controls.“ It is extremely important to maintain the airport buildings and grounds at a high level to maximise operational efficiency. MITIE work closely with us to ensure the delivery of a quality facilities management service.”
