Contract detail

Five-year Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) contract for the world-famous Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden, home to The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet.

What was Royal Opera House looking for?

The Royal Opera House sought a reputable company with a proven track record indirectly managing and delivering technically demanding Facilities Management Services to similar high profile organisations. The key requirement was that all services would be underpinned by technology and robust policies and procedures which should at all times reflect good industry practice within an environment of continuous improvement.

How did we help?

Prior to our appointment the FM services were being delivered individually by various subcontractors. This method of operation was inefficient and costly to the client. MITIE was able to demonstrate to the Royal Opera House its ability to deliver the services under one contract, by combining exceptional service levels befitting of the magnificent Royal Opera House, along with significant operating and energy efficiencies. Our innovative approach has ensured resilient services and driven efficiencies, resulting in improved value for money.

The results…

MITIE’s integrated FM proposition brings together over 100 MITIE people operating around the clock to deliver services which include engineering, cleaning, security, telephony, mail and reprographics.

Full operational analysis of the day-to-day intricacies of the FM revealed many areas for improvement and opportunities for innovation. It was not only necessary to revolutionise the clients approach to FM but to ensure that the approach was specifically tailored to the culture of Royal Opera House.

Space management – A moderately sized office, where two members of staff sat, was being used to store receipts and other important documents. The onsite MITIE project team suggested scanning the documents and transformed the space by installing four new office desks for use by Royal Opera House staff. The Client commended the MITIE site team for the transformation.

Energy savings – Through a combination of energy saving lamps/LEDs, proximity sensors, fine tuning of building controls, night purging and AHU control adjustments, MITIE achieved approximately 5% energy savings for ROH.
