The contract was let in October 2009, is for three years with a possible extension of two years and covers all Selfridges’ stores in London, Birmingham and Manchester.
What was Selfridges looking for?
Selfridges required a service partner that understood the unique retail environment of Selfridges and took ownership and responsibility for smooth daily operation to prevent disruption to the retail sales activity. The scale, design and complexity of buildings requires a high level of technical expertise, a proactive approach to planned preventative maintenance and a fast response when technical problems do occur.
How did we help?
MITIE managed the TUPE transfer of over 40 staff from the outset. The contract now employs 48 people and is delivered via a regional operational structure. Maintaining business continuity is a key driver for Selfridges and MITIE employs a highly specialised team to deliver these services, with a skilled internal engineering resource. The key focus is the delivery of statutory and critical maintenance, reactive support of technical and FM tasks plus project works.
The results…
MITIE has worked with Selfridges to achieve full statutory compliance within 3 months. We were also able to reduce sub-contractor costs by 16% using the buying power of MITIE’s Procurement Team and through greater emphasis on self–delivery. Condition surveys, forward maintenance registers and energy management plans were produced at no additional cost to Selfridges. MITIE's processes and procedures were implemented in each store which helped to develop and achieve more effective maintenance activities and a more efficient management structure, which in turn has produced better value for money.
