MITIE achieves Gold in Business in the Community’s 10th Corporate Responsibility Index
15 March 2012
MITIE Group PLC, the strategic outsourcing and energy services company, is pleased to announce that it has achieved GOLD in Business in the Community’s (BITC) 2012 Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI), the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.
The CR Index helps companies to integrate and improve corporate responsibility throughout their business operations. In the last ten years since the CR Index launched there have been substantial shifts in how companies integrate responsible business into their operations, along with a growing recognition of the role of business in society and the potential to be a force for good.
Achieving Gold means that MITIE has demonstrated openness and transparency through effective public reporting of its material environmental and social issues, programmes and performance.
MITIE’s chief executive Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE, commented: “We are delighted to have achieved Gold in the 2012 index for the second year running. At MITIE we are committed to operating a responsible, sustainable business because we believe it’s the best way to do business from both a moral and commercial perspective.
“We recognise the need for our business and people to make a positive contribution, adding value to the economy, society and the environment in which we operate. This achievement demonstrates our commitment to corporate responsibility and how integral it is to the way we do business.”
Stephen Howard, Chief Executive, Business in the Community said: “I congratulate MITIE on achieving Gold in the 2012 BITC Corporate Responsibility Index.
“The CR Index has helped to highlight clearly those best practice examples that bring to life in a powerful way what integrated responsible practice really looks like.
“As we celebrate 10 years of our CR Index it has given me great pleasure to witness the responsible business journey and the transformations companies such as MITIE are making both within their businesses and the impact they have in our communities”.

About the CR Index
Business in the Community's CR Index is the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility (CR). It helps companies to integrate and improve CR throughout their operations by providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on business impacts in society and on the environment. For the past ten years the CR Index has inspired and challenged over 350 companies to continuously improve their impact on society and the environment. This year we expect to have more than 100 companies participate publicly and use our tool to both improve their management practices and communicate to stakeholders how seriously they take their CR agenda.
