Green roofing
A green or living roof uses plant life and vegetation instead of traditional roofing materials. This type of grass roof construction is eco-friendly, and provides excellent insulation to the building, helping to reduce energy consumption. It can also absorb rainwater which then evaporates back into the air, reducing the amount of water that would otherwise run into the guttering.
There are three main types of green roof systems:
The extensive green roof system is a lightweight, cost-effective and durable grass roof construction. It’s ideal for use on lightweight structures and low sloping roofs.
The intensive green roof system is simply a garden on a roof. This can transform your roof space into an area that can be used for recreation, or simply to make it more aesthetically pleasing. The roof structure will typically require extra support to with stand the additional weight.
Bio-diverse roofs, which are also called brown roofs, use recycled material such as crushed brick and rubble, which are then generally left to seed naturally.
