We always look forward as a business but we remember where we have been as well. The culture of Mitie is focused on supporting our clients, developing our people and providing excellent services which should result in a good return for our shareholders.
Mitie is an acronym, which stands for 'management incentive through investment equity'. We've always been an entrepreneurial business, receptive to feedback, new ideas and looking for the next innovation in our market. When we started we used a model where entrepreneurs or management teams approached us with business ideas and we co-invested. If the idea complemented our service offering, a business plan developed and Mitie invested at least 51% of the initial capital required, with the entrepreneurs or managers investing the balance. The new business was then established and supported by Mitie through expertise, equity, working capital, back-office and administration. We have formed over 100 of these businesses and in the early days they were a key driver for growth. Today we may occasionally use this approach but now it is all about using the breadth of our service range and abilities to support our clients in this rapidly changing world.
Over the years, we've been able to expand our service offering by listening to our clients and providing the perfect incubator for our people to develop their ideas. The result is a dynamic business that is a market leader in the UK.
