Article 23 April 2020 COVID-19: Combating the spread Safe and effective cleaning is key to combating the spread of COVID-19. Our cleaning clients span diverse industries, including retail, telecoms, education, distribution, manufacturing and public transport – all are united in their determination to protect colleagues and customers, while maintaining their critical services. Meeting the challenge Mitie has provided cleaning services for over 30 years. We are using this deep knowledge to help our clients meet the unprecedented challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic: NHS collaboration – as subject matter experts, Mitie is collaborating with the NHS and Public Health England as part of a working party to develop and adapt standard operating procedures (SOPs) for colleagues on healthcare contracts, including the sanitisation of areas that have accommodated COVID-19 patients. Expert advice – rightly, clients are looking to Mitie, as their cleaning provider, to provide leadership and expert advice. Following the COVID-19 guidance from NHS England, our in-house subject matter experts are recommending the best available cleaning products and equipment, adapting operating procedures and developing and undertaking risk assessments – all designed to reduce the spread of infection.Advice is sector-specific: for example, banking customers are appraised of the risk associated with ATM keypads, while retailers are made aware of risks associated with shopping belt dividers and card machines. Targeted approach – cleaning operatives have been directed to sanitise high touchpoint areas, including lift buttons, bannisters, toilet flushes, door handles and push pads, in order to reduce the risk of spreading the virus. Decontamination cleans – Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour (HPV) is already commonly used throughout healthcare to rid spaces of viruses and bacteria. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Mitie has made similar cleans available to other sectors through our Technical Cleaning Services division. Having purchased additional ‘fogging’ machines, our highly trained and specially equipped colleagues simply spray the area with an advanced solution that decontaminates within 30 minutes. The same process can be used on vehicles, which typically take just seven minutes to be decontaminated. _ Get in touch If you would like more information about Deep Cleaning Services, please contact us using this form – a member of the Mitie team will contact you as soon as possible.
