Our commitment to ESG
Through our work with over 3,000 diverse customers, our 84,000 colleagues strive to make a positive difference to the lives of millions of people. And our ESG commitments and strategies are always evolving, allowing us to explore new technologies and processes that can make a difference to both people and the planet.
From our industry-leading Plan Zero strategy to our registered charity, The Mitie Foundation, we combine cutting-edge innovation with a focus on the environment, people and communities to make continuous improvements to our practices – and the world around us.
Our environmental commitments
Sustainability is embedded in every contract and project, as well as being at the heart of our internal operations. 76% of Mitie’s legacy fleet had transitioned to electric vehicles, with 6,406 EVs in operation and achieved the procurement of 100% renewable electricity for our estate and EV charging.
Having delivered an effectively Net Zero position for Scope 1 and 2 emissions at the end of 2025, the conclusion of Phase One, our focus has shifted to Plan Zero 2.0, with a re-baselined trajectory targeting a 50% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030 and Net Zero across our value chain by 2035.
Our social commitments
The wellbeing of people and communities is central to all our activities. Our people function works to develop talent, embrace diversity and inclusion and break down barriers to employment. And our dedicated Learning and Development team supported more than 1,800 apprenticeships in 2026.
But it’s not just about providing opportunities internally. Plan Thrive is Mitie’s commitment to creating lasting and meaningful social value. We’ve pledged to uplift 1m lives and improve 1,000 places, demonstrating our commitment to the communities we serve.
Our governance commitments
Our environmental and social commitments and underpinned by four levels of governance designed to promote a culture of continuous improvement and help us remain at the forefront of ESG activities.
With senior-level oversight of all activities and several working groups dedicated to ESG, these standards ensure we can identify risks and opportunities, and encourage collaboration between all stakeholders to fulfil our moral, legal and contractual obligations.

Supporting the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals
Mitie’s activities across each pillar of this framework align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which aim to protect the planet and ensure prosperity for all.
The climate emergency is humanity’s biggest challenge, and we believe education and understanding is at the heart of solving it. As experts in decarbonisation, we’re always striving to reduce carbon impacts, reduce waste and improve efficiency for ourselves and our clients.
