Sustainability strategy
Mitie’s sustainability strategy focuses on long-term success rather than short-term gains. It embraces the social, environmental and economic aspects of our operations.
Explore Mitie’s ESG Strategy
Mitie’s ESG Strategy is built around three core pillars that guide how we create long‑term value responsibly.
Our sustainability pillars focus on protecting the natural world, helping people and communities thrive by creating quality jobs, and ensuring we operate responsibly and transparently, with strong oversight of risk, ethics and compliance to uphold the highest standards across the business.

Mitie is a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business, but there’s still so much to do. We achieve our sustainability and social value goals by adopting a ‘Do, lead, deliver’ approach.
Our ESG strategy sets out actions and outcomes within the Mitie Group to drive positive change. Phase one of Plan Zero, our commitment to reach net zero by the end of FY25, has now concluded. This reflects progress made through fleet electrification and procurement of renewable energy. We are establishing a new emissions baseline and Plan Zero 2.0 will guide our next phase with new science-based targets and evolving standards.

Our commitments
We consider the environment throughout our value chain and are taking positive steps to reverse the effects of climate change, ensuring future generations live in a more sustainable world.
Drive down energy consumption, eliminate fossil fuel emissions and adopt natural renewable sources for electricity.
Reduce water and waste at source and adopt a circular economy approach. Take all measures to eliminate virgin products from our operations.
Embed environmental sustainability into all aspects of every contract and project delivery.
Measure, report and influence emissions in the value chain to align with our Scope I and 2 commitments.
Mitie’s Sustainability and Social Value Charter details our approach to climate action and environmental responsibility within our supply chain. It sets out standards for Mitie suppliers, including reporting scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions annually.
Biodiversity net gain must be significantly increased throughout our property portfolio.
The procurement process delivers a longer-term value beyond cost savings. It promotes safe and fair working conditions, human rights and labour standards.
In recognition of this, we launched our Sustainability and Social Value Supplier Charter in March 2026. It sets out Mitie’s expectations of suppliers and supports shared goals of uplifting lives, transforming places and building inclusive partnerships.
