Mitie has been awarded a new £50 million contract with London South Bank University (LSBU) Group to deliver integrated facilities management (FM) services including security, maintenance, cleaning, and waste management to six LSBU and South Bank College (SBC) sites for five years, with the option of extending for an additional two.
The contract will see Mitie deliver these services across all of LSBU’s sites, including its Southwark, Croydon, and Havering campuses. Along with the LSBU estate, Mitie’s services will also extend to SBC, which sits in the LSBU Group, campuses in Clapham, Brixton, and Nine Elms. This new partnership with Mitie marks the first time that all FM services across LSBU and SBC campuses will be brought together under one provider, providing consistency across sites.
Mitie’s approach to social value and investing in skills will be central to the contract. Part of this includes developing and upskilling colleagues through apprenticeship programmes, with the intention to also offer employment through apprenticeships, such as in engineering, for LSBU and SBC students post-graduation. As well as this, Mitie will be introducing a work experience scheme for eight local residents from underrepresented groups. The eight-week programme will offer hands-on experience into a range of professions for local people, from management to engineering.
Mitie’s decarbonisation commitment will also be showcased, with only electric vehicles being used on the contract. Along with this, Mitie will also be bringing its industry-leading technology. This includes its Mozaic software, which optimises workspace performance, giving a full oversight of Mitie’s performance and management by showing key data such as the job status, time to complete, and first-time fix rate for all tasks undertaken across LSBU’s sites. Data gathered by the software can be filtered by site, building, and asset, and can be used to generate insights to identify areas for improvement to save money and provide better services for LSBU.
Alice Woodwark, Managing Director, Communities, Mitie, said:
“We’re thrilled to partner with LSBU, bringing our higher education sector expertise. By bringing services for all LSBU and SBC sites under the Mitie umbrella, and introducing our technology-led approach to facilities transformation, we’re looking forward to creating safe, clean, and efficient spaces for students across the university group.”
Rychard Scrase-Field, Group Director of Estates Development, London South Bank University Group, said:
“We’re pleased to have appointed Mitie to provide facilities management services for LSBU Group, following a competitive tender process in which Mitie performed strongly. Effective, affordable and quality management services are essential to the delivery of operations on our campuses. We look forward to working with Mitie to embed the new services across our Group.”
