On 1 July 2026, facilities, estates and compliance leaders gathered at Woburn Center Parcs for Mitie’s Future of Facilities Compliance event. The day was designed to explore compliance across water, fire, security and building safety, and the opportunities created by taking a more integrated approach. The event marked the launch of Mitie Facilities Compliance, bringing together expertise across multiple areas of compliance to help organisations reduce risk, improve visibility and simplify compliance management.

A changing compliance landscape
The day opened with technology demonstrations, giving attendees the opportunity to explore innovative solutions from across the compliance landscape before Jason Towse officially introduced facilities compliance from Mitie. The launch reinforced a core message: compliance is becoming increasingly complex and organisations need joined-up expertise, insight and technology to stay ahead.
Water compliance was a key topic explored throughout the morning session. Attendees heard from Verity Mitchell, Water Analyst at The UK Water Report, alongside Geoff Smith, Mitie’s Managed Water Services Director, who explored the current water landscape and discussed findings from Mitie’s latest research. This included the launch of a new thought leadership report, How to avoid the water blind spot, which examines the challenges organisations face in managing water risk and highlights opportunities to improve visibility and resilience across estates.
Expert voices from across the sector then joined a panel discussion, including Lyvia Nabarro, Head of Market Engagement at MOSL, Adam Johnson, CEO of Water Direct, Verity Mitchell and Geoff Smith, sharing practical perspectives on the future of water management and compliance.
Building safety, technology and innovation
A standout moment of the afternoon was a keynote address from Dame Judith Hackitt, who shared her perspective on building safety and accountability in today’s post-Grenfell regulatory landscape. Her session highlighted the importance of robust compliance frameworks, clear accountability and a proactive approach to managing risk.
The afternoon also saw Alex Avila, Mitie’s Managing Director of Consulting and Energy Solutions, sharing his view on the future of energy compliance, while headline sponsor Honeywell shared insights on emerging technologies.
The event concluded with a panel discussion featuring Martin Watson, Chair of the British Security Industry Association; Rob Gue, Head of Branch FM Operations at Nationwide; Dan Ascough, UK Sales Leader at Honeywell; and Mitie’s Christian Watts, Manging Director of Mitie Fire & Security. Together, they explored the role of technology, partnership and integrated compliance in creating safer, more resilient buildings.
