One Millsike
Rehabilitation and restoration are at the heart of HMP Millsike and our ‘One Millsike’ vision. Alongside our key partners, PeoplePlus and Forward Trust, we’re taking a fresh approach to help everyone in our care unlock their potential and make meaningful, positive changes. We’re pioneering sustainability in the prison sector; HMP Millsike consumes 68% less energy than even the most recent prison builds.
Our vision for rehabilitating prisoners
The main purpose of a prison is to protect the public, but it’s also important to give prisoners the tools they need to transform their lives and contribute to thriving communities. Our goal is to create an engaging rehabilitative environment and culture, empowering individuals with the skills and emotional resilience they need to make progressive, self-determined choices.
HMP Millsike gives prisoners a sense of safety and respect, through a supportive and opportunity-filled environment – helping them unlock their potential and a brighter future.

Education and industry for a productive future
With our partner PeoplePlus, we’re dedicated to offering education, vocational training and resettlement services that prepare individuals for life after release.
We work with local authorities such as the Inward Investment Workforce & Skills Teams at East Riding of Yorkshire Council and the Economic Evidence Team at West Yorkshire Combined Authority, to help prisoners learn skills to find employment.
This supports the local economy and helps make sure once former prisoners leave HMP Millsike, they never return to crime.

Support to maintain vital relationships
Families and friends are a crucial part of HMP Millsike’s approach to rehabilitation. Strong, constructive relationships are vital for helping prisoners find a way forward from offending. That’s why we provide eight Forward Trust Family and Relationship Practitioners at HMP Millsike.
Crime has deep and far-reaching consequences. We offer support to prisoners and their families and friends to help them maintain and repair relationships – fostering the right environment for lasting positive development.

An environment that cultivates better health and wellbeing
Good health is essential for rehabilitation and a positive future. At HMP Millsike, we provide a range of services to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Prisoners in our care are supported with medical and chaplaincy services, as required.
We also recognise the importance of physical activity for health, stress management and rehabilitation. Our sports and fitness facilities are designed to help prisoners to stay active, develop teamwork skills and build routines.

A conscious pathway to successful resettlement
At HMP Millsike, we’re committed to helping individuals prepare for life after release by providing structured resettlement support. We want everyone in our care to have the necessary skills and opportunities to successfully reintegrate into society, reduce reoffending and contribute to a thriving community.
Resettlement planning begins from the moment someone enters custody. We work closely with external agencies, probation services and community organisations to give prisoners a clear pathway towards stability and independence.

Community engagement that helps everyone thrive
We believe that strong community engagement reduces reoffending and keeps everyone safer. That’s why we provide support and opportunities to help prisoners rebuild their lives – working closely with local businesses, sporting groups, police forces and charities and many parish, town and unitary councils across Yorkshire.
We welcome the support of individuals, groups and businesses who wish to contribute to our community engagement efforts. If you’re interested in volunteering, partnering with us or learning more about our programmes, please contact [email protected].
We want HMP Millsike to be part of the local community- local residents can contact the prison with any questions or concerns via: [email protected].

Another life is possible. We believe that everyone can live a fulfilling life, whatever their past. If you’re affected by drug or alcohol issues, past offending, homelessness or unemployment: help is out there!

We make a positive difference to people’s lives – every single day. Our committed teams work across Britain to deliver a range of public services, including support to find employment, skills training, prison education, independent living and self-employment advice. We also help employers grow through socially responsible recruitment and wellbeing solutions.
