Mitie secures three-year extension to deliver integrated facilities management (IFM) services including engineering, maintenance, cleaning, waste management, grounds maintenance and catering at Sellafield through the Cumbria Consortium
The renewed agreement will see Mitie continue investing in skills, employment and economic growth across Cumbria through apprenticeships, work experience opportunities and its Business Boost initiative
Building on Mitie’s long-standing relationship with Sellafield, the extension follows the recent appointment of its OneAxIoM joint venture to the site’s Project and Asset Care Execution (PACE) framework
Mitie has secured a three-year integrated facilities management (IFM) contract extension with the Cumbria Consortium, including Sellafield Ltd. Over 600 Mitie colleagues will continue delivering engineering, maintenance, cleaning, waste management, grounds maintenance and catering services across critical infrastructure sites in Cumbria and Warrington. The extension builds on five years of successful partnership with option for a further two years.
As part of its commitment to supporting skills, employment and economic growth across West Cumbria, Mitie has continued to invest in developing local talent. Over the past three years, 33 colleagues have progressed into permanent roles through apprenticeship and upskilling programmes in areas including mechanical engineering, administration and landscaping. During the same period, more than 40 people have completed work experience placements and nearly 100 individuals have gained accredited qualifications through Mitie’s training and development programmes.
Through its Business Boost initiative, delivered in partnership with Sellafield’s Social Impact Multiplied (SiX) programme, Mitie also supports economic growth across the region. Now in its fourth year, the ‘Dragons-Den’ style initiative offers local businesses and entrepreneurs the opportunity to secure up to £50,000 in funding, alongside mentoring, business support and access to industry networks. The next round of the Business Boost programme is now underway, with applications open to start-ups, SMEs, and entrepreneurs operating in West Cumbria here.
Over more than 20 years, Mitie’s partnership with Sellafield has grown from an initial cleaning contract to the delivery of integrated facilities management services, as well as specialist security and guarding operations. Marking another major milestone in that relationship, OneAxIoM, Mitie’s joint venture with Amentum, has recently been appointed as the preferred partner for Lot 1 of Sellafield’s Project and Asset Care Execution (PACE) framework. Under the nine-year agreement, OneAxIoM will support Sellafield’s spent fuel management and retrievals mission, bringing together expertise in engineering, project delivery, asset care and plant modification to deliver services across the full lifecycle of major projects.
