Mitie wins new contract with East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust
- Mitie has won a seven and a half-year contract to deliver services for Lister Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, two of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s hospitals
- The contract is worth £4 million a year and will see over 200 Mitie employees delivering cleaning services for the two hospitals
Mitie has won a new seven and a half-year contract to deliver services for Lister Hospital and Hertford County Hospital, two of East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust’s hospitals. The contract is worth £4 million a year and has the option to extend for up to two and a half years.
The contract will see Mitie colleagues delivering cleaning services for the two hospitals, as well as portering services for Hertford County Hospital. This new contract adds to Mitie’s winning streak, having announced earlier this year that it secured facilities management and catering contracts with three other NHS Trusts in England.
Technology will be central to the contract, with Mitie rolling-out sensors to monitor footfall across the hospitals’ public spaces, including reception areas and entrances, in real time. This data will help Mitie identify spaces that are being used most frequently and therefore should be prioritised for cleaning, helping keep hospital employees and patients safe.
Mitie will also introduce a new autonomous scrubber-drier robot to keep the Hospitals’ floors spick and span whilst allowing cleaning colleagues to focus on key tasks, such as disinfecting touch points and other critical areas. With sustainability a priority, the robot has been designed to use less energy and water than traditional machines, allowing Mitie to help the NHS achieve its goal of becoming net zero by 2040.
As part of the contract, Mitie will provide the Trusts’ site managers with access to its real-time reporting platform. As well as being linked to the real-time footfall sensors, the Trust will have access to a range of information about the work carried out across the hospitals, including insights on areas earmarked for priority cleaning.
Over 200 Mitie employees will deliver cleaning and portering services for Lister Hospital and Hertford County Hospital. For this contract, Mitie and East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust have committed to uplift all Mitie frontline colleagues to at least the Real Living Wage.

Kevin Howell, Director, Estates and Facilities, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust, said:
