The first FM company to sign up to The Climate Group’s initiatives
Mitie has joined The Climate Group’s RE100 initiative, committing to only use 100% renewable electricity across all its sites – which Mitie has already achieved. Mitie is the eighth company in the world and first in the FM industry to join all three of The Climate Group’s initiatives – EP100, EV100 and RE100. Membership to RE100 is part of the company’s Plan Zero commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2025.

Mitie named three-time award winner for its diversity and inclusion
Mitie has been named the winner in two categories, ‘Best Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Initiative’ and ‘Best Learning Initiative for Business Culture’, at the Business Culture Awards 2021. Both awards recognise Mitie’s bespoke ‘Count Me In’ learning programme, focused on promoting diversity and inclusion. Facilities Transformation leader Mitie rolls out 32 automated cobots at Europe’s largest airport. Sustainable cobots can clean area the size of eight football pitches every day with just 18 litres of water. The cobots have proved a huge hit with passengers and staff alike, providing a distraction for young passengers during check-in.

Mitie embarks on a new journey with South Western Railway
New three-year contract with South Western Railway (SWR) covering engineering maintenance and repairs for over 200 stations and a further ten train depots from Waterloo to Weymouth. Sustainability will play a central role throughout the contract, with Mitie deploying its Plan Zero experts to identify and deliver carbon cutting initiatives. As well as building on its existing intelligence-led security contract with SWR, this contract demonstrates further growth for Mitie’s rail transport business, which counts over ten train operating companies as customers.

Mitie confirms a cohort of 30 learners are set to enrol on the Professional Security Operative (PSO) Level 2 Apprenticeship which was launched today. The new apprenticeship standard will offer specialised training and development opportunities for people in the early stages of their security career. Mitie has welcomed applications from colleagues from all walks of life, including colleagues already working in the industry as well as newcomers from other areas of the business.
