Mitie and Elements Green break ground at Staythorpe BESS
Mitie Power & Grid, working with international renewable energy developer Elements Green, has begun construction on the Staythorpe Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) – one of the largest in Europe. The £71.5 million project will create around 60 jobs during the build phase, deliver a 25.7% Biodiversity Net Gain, and ensure collaboration with local residents. Once complete in 2027, the 360MW/720MWh facility will store enough renewable energy to power over 95,000 homes for a full day, strengthening UK energy resilience and accelerating the transition to net zero.
