Investing in our services

Health and safety

At Mitie, the health and safety of our people is a top priority, and this commitment is reflected in everything we do. We regularly review our safety policies in line with current and upcoming legislation, and work hard to constantly improve our processes.

We set ourselves challenging targets in this area and carry out on-site audits for each and every project. Procedures like this help us to monitor our performance and understand the risks, not only to our people but also to the environment.

So rest assured, whatever roofing work we’re doing, our people have been fully trained. They know exactly what the risks are and, most importantly, how to stay safe.

Training and accreditations

We’re independently audited by the NQA to ensure our business is compliant and efficient, and that our Health and Safety procedures are the very best they can be.

In addition to our industry-recognised certifications, we invest in the training of our people to help update their technical, health, safety and environmental skills using organisations such as the CITB, FASET, IPAF, UKATA and IOSH.

Safety and training aren’t just things we talk about; they’re at the very heart of our business.

Sheeting and cladding

Refurbishment of corrugated roofing and cladding gives you the opportunity to upgrade the insulation of your building, and create a new weather-tight covering.

This can be achieved by replacing the whole roof with a composite panel for simple and faster site installation, or a built-up roof cladding system. Alternatively, where appropriate, over-cladding the whole building envelope (roof and walls).

Our roofing teams have the expertise to refurbish asbestos cement roofs and profiled metal systems, single or twin skin.

We can assess the condition of your existing building and provide consultative advice and options to suit various budgets.

Asbestos cement roofs

Chrysotile asbestos cement roofs are often found on older industrial buildings. Due to serious health implications of handling asbestos materials incorrectly, it is important to obtain expert advice regarding roof refurbishment.

If you suspect your roof was constructed utilising asbestos containing materials and would like to find out more about refurbishing it safely, then we’re here to help.

We will safely manage the asbestos removal and disposal. All of our teams are fully trained on the requirements of working with these materials, and in identifying the risks associated with both non-licensed and licensed asbestos products, such as amosite and crocidolite.

We work with a nationwide network of licensed asbestos removal contractors to ensure any licensed work you require is dealt with professionally and safely, so you can be confident you have an experienced team on board.

All our work meets current legislative requirements, and we ensure that all materials removed from the site are quickly and safely taken to a licensed asbestos disposal site.

Flat roof systems

Felt roofing

Built-up felt roofing is a well-established method method of weather proofing that uses modern bituminous membranes. Systems with high SBS (styrene butadiene styrene) content produce an elastomeric felt that is designed to move with the thermal fluctuations of your building, which in turn increases system life-expectancy.

Modern high-performance felt roofing can be installed using traditional ‘pour and roll’ or torch-applied techniques. If your site has a ‘no flame’ policy, we can also offer cold-applied felt roofing, which doesn’t use hot bitumen or gas torches.

Our roofing teams are highly experienced in the application of built-up felt roofing and can talk you through different application methods, providing recommendations for the best options for your roof.

Working with our supply chain partners, we offer single-point guarantees covering materials and workmanship for up to 25 years.

Single-ply membranes

Single-ply roofing systems are lightweight flexible membranes typically made from PVC or Thermoplastic PolyOlefin (TPO). Thickness is between 1mm and 2mm.

They are installed rapidly and “flame-free” using hot-air welding, adhesives and fasteners.

Single-ply roofing is a cost-effective method for covering large roof areas and the finished product is a modern, aesthetically pleasing roofing system.

As one of the UK’s leading single-ply roofing contractors, our roofing team can advise you on whether this is the best solution for your property or suggest alternative roofing options that are better suited to your building.

We’ll then work with you from day one and liaise throughout each step of the project. That’s because we’re focused on delivering a world-class service to each and every one of our clients.

Liquid-applied coatings

Liquid-applied roofing systems offer a seamless, cold-applied roof coating which is particularly suited to buildings that house extensive plant and equipment. They are applied by brush or roller and produce a waterproof membrane that is strong and flexible.

Liquid-applied coatings can incorporate colour contrast walkways with skid-inhibiting surfaces, and are guaranteed for up to 25years.

Our roofing team can carry out a roof survey and give you a detailed description of all your roofing issues. We’ll then have a consultation meeting to ensure we develop a tailor made solution that best serves the needs of your business.

Flat to pitched roofing

If you have an old flat roof that suffers from ponding water, you may find that flat to pitched roofing could be the answer.

In a flat to pitched roof conversion, a new lightweight steel sub frame is built over the existing roof and then over-clad. They are assembled at roof level, and because they’re lightweight, there’s only limited increased weight on the building structure.

The new pitched roof allows rainwater to drain from the area completely that reduces the potential for future water ingress. Each system is bespoke, designed to suit the existing structure.

We’ve installed Flat to Pitched roof conversions for many years and for clients in many sectors. We’ll provide a thorough specification and clear quotation, and where possible we will look to provide fresh and innovative ideas about how best to carry out the work. As leading roofing refurbishment contractors, we’ll always ensure that our recommendations fit your budget and meet your long-term needs.

Green roofing systems

Green roofing refers to a roof that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and a growing medium, planted over a waterproof membrane.

Greater awareness about sustainability and carbon footprints in recent years has created an increase in the number of green roof installations.

Green roofs have numerous benefits including greater water absorption and slower release, allowing the water to be recycled elsewhere as brown water. Green roofs can also help with insulation during the winter and help buildings stay cool in the summer.

Mitie Roofing has the specialised skills to deliver green roof solutions, and we have a track record of effective and beautiful results.

Rainwater systems

Removing rainwater effectively from a roof is crucial to keeping it watertight and prolonging its life. That’s why providing the most efficient guttering system for your roof is an integral part of any roofing project.

Our roofing team will advise on maintaining, updating or installing your guttering and rainwater systems on a standalone basis.

If you like, we’ll also work with you to discuss how you can pro-actively maintain your guttering through one of our maintenance service plans.

Roof light renewal

Our professional team of commercial roofing experts can transform a dark building to a light and airy environment, simply by replacing existing roof lights.

Increasing natural daylight in your building can also reduce the need for artificial lighting, which in turn will reduce your lighting costs.

Our expert roof light renewal work can often be undertaken with little or no disruption to daily activities, so your building can remain fully operational throughout the works.
