Mitie and Zestec drive renewable energy initiative at LEGOLAND
Mitie is installing a solar carport at LEGOLAND® Windsor, developed and financed under Zestec Renewable Energy’s contract with Merlin Attractions Operations, generating over 1.1 million kWh annually and saving 195 tonnes of carbon emissions each year. The solar energy will power the Legoland Resort and its new Woodland Village – LEGOLAND® Windsor and Merlin Entertainments’ first operationally carbon-neutral guest accommodation – and provide shaded parking for guests. The project reflects Mitie and Zestec’s ongoing relationship to develop sustainable infrastructure and commitments to decarbonise the UK’s built environment.

Mitie named three-time award winner for its diversity and inclusion
Mitie has been named the winner in two categories, ‘Best Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Initiative’ and ‘Best Learning Initiative for Business Culture’, at the Business Culture Awards 2021. Both awards recognise Mitie’s bespoke ‘Count Me In’ learning programme, focused on promoting diversity and inclusion. The Mitie Foundation has also won the Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion ‘Driving Social Inclusion in the Workplace’ Award for its Ready2Work programme.

Mitie employees from the Heathrow Terminal 5 cleaning team will star in this week’s episode of Heathrow: Britain’s Busiest Airport, airing at 8pm on Wednesday 17 March on ITV. The episode goes behind the scenes at Terminal 5 with Cleaning Manager Stan Nikolov and UV robot ‘Victoria’, highlighting the extra initiatives that have been put in place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mitie pilots virtual SIA accreditation in security industry first
Mitie is the first Security company to pilot online SIA accredited security guarding course. Six Security Officers have already completed their online training and received their SIA accreditation, with 50 more scheduled to complete over the coming weeks. This innovative approach to training will ensure Mitie is able to meet the increasing demand for qualified security personnel to support the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mitie has introduced two key policy changes to support better work-life balance for its colleagues. Mitie colleagues will now benefit from the early implementation of enhanced flexible working and carer’s leave policies almost a year ahead of them becoming statutory requirements in the UK. This decision, which was championed by Mitie’s own colleague network of Parents & Carers, demonstrates Mitie’s commitment to giving colleagues a voice.
