In fact, the Boulby Underground Laboratory in Yorkshire is where Mitie colleague, Maria Wood, works as a soft services manager. It’s an important job – Maria makes sure the facility is well-managed and remains spotless for all users. This includes the many scientists who travel from around the world to work in its unique environment.

Mitie helps Essex schools cut their carbon with solar panel rollout

Mitie has supported Essex County Council with the installation of roof mounted solar panels at 15 schools across the county. The panels will generate 700,000 kWh of energy, equivalent to powering 185 homes a year, saving 180 tonnes of CO2 and around £115,000 annually. A further 28 school sites and council buildings will also have solar panels installed over the next 3 months, saving an additional 220 tonnes of CO2 a year.

Mitie lands two contract extensions with DWP

Mitie has extended its Facilities Management and Life Systems Services contracts with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for one year, with the option to extend for a further year. The two contract extensions will see Mitie continue to deliver services including engineering, maintenance, and cleaning as well as asset safety checks to 1,000 DWP sites. Sustainability will take a central role across both contracts, with Mitie increasing its electric vehicle charging system rollout, and introducing solar panels across DWP offices.

Workers excited to return to the office over Christmas period

Over half of workers (54%) say they are excited to be back in the office this festive season after two years of disruption due to COVID, with nearly two thirds of people (64%) appreciating the festive cheer in the office even more after the pandemic. Tucking into treats, decorating desks, wearing festive jumpers, and catching up with colleagues ahead of the break are all among the best things about the office at Christmas time. More than half (53%) of office workers say they love sharing festive cheer with colleagues and a similar number (51%) love the feeling of their workplace at this time of year.

Cijo Joseph joins the Mitie Executive Leadership Team

Mitie Group plc has today announced that Cijo Joseph, Chief Technology and Information Officer, will join Mitie’s Executive Leadership Team, reporting directly to CEO Phil Bentley. At the same time, David Cooper will retire from his role as Mitie’s Group Chief Transformation and Technology Officer.
