Custom Solar breaks ground on solar project with the DIO
Custom Solar, part of Mitie Power & Grid, has broken ground on a £3.9 million solar installation at Bassingbourn Barracks in Royston, Cambridgeshire, for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) on behalf of the British Army. The solar installation will produce around 2.2mWp of renewable electricity per year, enough to power the equivalent of 800 UK homes annually. The project builds on Mitie Power & Grid’s successful delivery of a solar installation at Weeton Barracks in Lancashire, which became operational earlier this year.

Mitie celebrates sixth year as a certified UK Top Employer
Mitie has been recognised as a UK Top Employer for the sixth year running. Awarded by the Top Employers Institute, the certification recognises Mitie’s commitment to supporting its colleagues through its HR policies and people practices. The announcement builds on Mitie’s recent award wins including being named one of the UK’s Top 50 Most Inclusive Employers, receiving a Silver Award from the Inclusive Employers Standard and winning the HR Excellence Award for Best Early Careers Strategy.

Mitie named Top 50 Inclusive UK Employer for fifth year running
Mitie has been named one of the UK’s top 50 most inclusive employers by Inclusive Companies for the fifth year running. The announcement recognises Mitie’s initiatives to promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the business, as well as the commitment from colleagues at all levels to embrace and implement these programmes. Mitie is the only facilities management company to make the list and ranks 17th, as it continues to set the standard for diversity and inclusion in the FM industry.

Mitie lands two contract extensions with DWP
Mitie has extended its Facilities Management and Life Systems Services contracts with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) for one year, with the option to extend for a further year. The two contract extensions will see Mitie continue to deliver services including engineering, maintenance, and cleaning as well as asset safety checks to 1,000 DWP sites. Sustainability will take a central role across both contracts, with Mitie increasing its electric vehicle charging system rollout, and introducing solar panels across DWP offices.

Mitie helps Essex schools cut their carbon with solar panel rollout
Mitie has supported Essex County Council with the installation of roof mounted solar panels at 15 schools across the county. The panels will generate 700,000 kWh of energy, equivalent to powering 185 homes a year, saving 180 tonnes of CO2 and around £115,000 annually. A further 28 school sites and council buildings will also have solar panels installed over the next 3 months, saving an additional 220 tonnes of CO2 a year.
