Mitie helps accelerate Environment Agency’s EV plan with new contract
Mitie has secured a new contract to install electric vehicle (EV) charge points for the Environment Agency, a delivery body of DEFRA, building on its existing facilities management support. The £4.5 million contract will see Mitie install and operate around 450 EV charge points at more than 100 locations. With an initial contract term of two years, with the option to extend for three more, the charging points will help the Environment Agency accelerate its EV rollout across the UK and contribute to its net zero ambitions.

First-mover Mitie launches new apprenticeships on AI adoption
Mitie has welcomed the first cohort of apprentices to its new AI skills programme which has been developed by Corndel in partnership with Imperial College London and supported by Microsoft. The apprentices are based across the UK, including Birmingham and Nottingham, and work across Mitie’s areas of expertise from engineering to project management. The 12-month long programme is the first of three new AI programmes and will empower participants to become ‘AI Productivity Champions’ for the business.

Mitie welcomes 41 new apprentices to its Apprenticeship Programme
Mitie has welcomed 41 new apprentices to its Technical Services Apprenticeship Programme as part of its efforts to attract and develop the next generation of engineers. In addition to 18 other apprentices which joined earlier in the year, this new intake takes Mitie past its target of 50 new Technical Services apprentices in 2021. The Apprenticeship Programme, which is part of Mitie’s Technical Services Academy, is an initiative that supports Mitie’s offer of learning and development opportunities for employees at every stage in their career.

Mitie took home the silver award in the ‘Community Programme of the Year’ category. The award recognises Mitie’s approach to volunteering in schools, which is part of its wider community support programme, Giving Back. By targeting young people, the initiative aims to create awareness of the various routes into employment, and empower young people from all backgrounds to make informed career choice.

Mitie’s latest e-book explores the most common challenges faced by organisations looking to reach net zero and offers solutions on how to tackle them effectively. With the race to net zero well underway, avoiding these common pitfalls is key to implementing successful, speedy and cost-effective decarbonisation plans. Mitie’s own net zero roadmap will see the business decarbonise all 70+ sites, and with just eight to go, it will have an entirely net zero estate by its 2025 deadline.

Mitie and SDCL help customers fund and deliver sustainable projects
Mitie and Sustainable Development Capital LLP (SDCL) have launched a new partnership to support organisations wanting to roll out large-scale decarbonisation and energy efficiency projects for their estates, but are faced with significant upfront investment. Mitie will use its engineering and energy management expertise to help customers design and manage their sustainability projects from end to end. SDCL will seek to provide the capital to fund these projects and make them available for use by customers, with fees linked to an energy services contract.

Mitie Security works with the National Portrait Gallery to provide a safer and more secure space for visitors in Central London
Mitie Security has worked with the National Portrait Gallery to implement measures that support the Safer Business Network’s Safe Haven Initiative. Responding to the issue of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG), the Security team at the Gallery have received specialist training to help vulnerable people, ensuring they receive appropriate support. Mitie Security has worked with the National Portrait Gallery to support its classification by the Safer Business Network as a ‘Safe Haven,’ enhancing the safety of all visitors to the Gallery and those who enjoy Central London’s vibrant nighttime economy.
