Custom Solar breaks ground on solar project with the DIO
Custom Solar, part of Mitie Power & Grid, has broken ground on a £3.9 million solar installation at Bassingbourn Barracks in Royston, Cambridgeshire, for the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) on behalf of the British Army. The solar installation will produce around 2.2mWp of renewable electricity per year, enough to power the equivalent of 800 UK homes annually. The project builds on Mitie Power & Grid’s successful delivery of a solar installation at Weeton Barracks in Lancashire, which became operational earlier this year.

Mitie lands grounds maintenance contract with Edinburgh Airport
Mitie has secured a five-year contract to deliver grounds maintenance services at Edinburgh Airport. Mitie’s responsibilities will include grass cutting, tree maintenance, litter picking, and weed control, as well as winter maintenance services. Sustainable white marine salt will be used for gritting services rather than traditional brown salt, as part of Mitie’s mission to deliver sustainable services on the contract.

Mitie lands contract extensions at four UK airports
Mitie has extended its relationship with four UK airports – Manchester, East Midlands, London Stansted and Belfast City Airport – until March 2025, underpinning its sector expertise in the Aviation sector. The services include security, screening, cleaning, technical services and waste operations across the busy sites, keeping these functional, clean and safe for the millions of passengers they welcome each year. These contract extensions build on the strong and long-standing partnership between Mitie and the airports.

Red and gold secure Number One spot this Christmas
Mitie is installing more than 500 Christmas trees across the UK this festive season, with traditional red & gold colour schemes top choice in 2019. 30 km of lights and 87,000 baubles used to decorate trees from Aberdeen to Plymouth. New trends include sustainable Christmas tree planting and Mitie’s first Pride-themed Christmas tree.

Shoppers concerned about Covid safety as they return to the shops
Most Brits are still nervous about heading to the high street, with 73% worried about visiting shops and cafés without visible Covid-19 measures in place. More than half (53%) of adults say they will only go into shops with visible Covid measures in place, such as air ventilation, UV technology and increased cleaning regimes. Consumers will spend around half an hour longer in stores and cafes with measures in place.

Mitie ranks 16th in Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers 2025
Mitie has been recognised as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer 2025 by the Department for Education (DFE) and RateMyApprenticeship for the fourth consecutive year. This ranking reflects Mitie’s investment into apprenticeships, with over 1,600 apprentices across the business. This recognition follows a number of developments within Mitie’s apprenticeship programmes, including its recently launched AI apprenticeship programme.
