Mitie lays-out roadmap for a net zero carbon estate by 2025

Mitie has announced its roadmap to decarbonise all its sites across the UK, committing to achieve its first four net zero sites this year. An additional 14 sites are planned to be decarbonised every year until 2025, when Mitie will have an entirely net zero estate. Mitie has also committed to energy optimisations equivalent to saving 26 tonnes of CO2 a year and investing in energy efficiency measures such as LED lighting, insulation and upgrading old equipment.

The first FM company to sign up to The Climate Group’s initiatives

Mitie has joined The Climate Group’s RE100 initiative, committing to only use 100% renewable electricity across all its sites – which Mitie has already achieved. Mitie is the eighth company in the world and first in the FM industry to join all three of The Climate Group’s initiatives – EP100, EV100 and RE100. Membership to RE100 is part of the company’s Plan Zero commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2025.

Mitie marks one year of Plan Zero with new sustainability pledges

Mitie has marked the first anniversary of Plan Zero with new sustainability pledges for its fleet, energy use and waste in 2021. Mitie has also committed to setting science-based targets with the science-based targets initiative and has pledged to reach net-zero for its Scope 3 emissions – suppliers, employee commuting and working from home – by 2035. New sustainable solutions, such as energy saving robot vacuums, will be trialled in Mitie sites in 2021.

Mitie flying high with new waste contract at Bristol Airport

Mitie and Elements Green break ground at Staythorpe BESS

Mitie Power & Grid, working with international renewable energy developer Elements Green, has begun construction on the Staythorpe Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) – one of the largest in Europe. The £71.5 million project will create around 60 jobs during the build phase, deliver a 25.7% Biodiversity Net Gain, and ensure collaboration with local residents. Once complete in 2027, the 360MW/720MWh facility will store enough renewable energy to power over 95,000 homes for a full day, strengthening UK energy resilience and accelerating the transition to net zero.
