Mitie wins on the Future Defence Infrastructure Services programme

Mitie has won a seven-year contract to deliver maintenance services on the Future Defence Infrastructure Services programme for sites across Scotland and Northern Ireland. Awarded by the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the contract is worth up to £646 million over seven years which DIO has the option to extend for three more years. The sites range from historic buildings, such as Edinburgh Castle, through to military and air force bases, including Abercorn Barracks and Kinloss Barracks.

Mitie drivers support the transition to Electric Vehicles (EV)

New survey* of Mitie electric vehicle (EV) drivers finds they’re supportive of the transition, with 91% glad they switched to electric. Financial savings and environmental benefits top the list as the most popular aspects of driving an EV. Issues around public charging infrastructure are a downside for half (50%) of EV drivers and the biggest area of concern for those waiting to get their new vehicle.

Mitie finds FM is a natural career match for ex-military personnel

Mitie’s first report into how the facilities management (FM) industry supports armed forces veterans shows the sector is a good career fit, with over two thirds (70%) of former servicemen and women saying FM roles match their skill set. More than three quarters (77%) of veterans would recommend a career in FM to other armed forces leavers. Though 50% of veterans say it was a challenge to find work after leaving the military, four in five (84%) managers say veterans are likely to possess the skills most urgently needed in the sector.

Mitie and Elements Green break ground at Staythorpe BESS

Mitie Power & Grid, working with international renewable energy developer Elements Green, has begun construction on the Staythorpe Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) – one of the largest in Europe. The £71.5 million project will create around 60 jobs during the build phase, deliver a 25.7% Biodiversity Net Gain, and ensure collaboration with local residents. Once complete in 2027, the 360MW/720MWh facility will store enough renewable energy to power over 95,000 homes for a full day, strengthening UK energy resilience and accelerating the transition to net zero.

Mitie Security has launched a new Global Security Operations service, integrating all of its intelligence and technology-led solutions into one integrated security offer. The service will combine Mitie’s industry-leading software, its 20,000 frontline security officers and world-class risk specialists, enabling customers to make informed security decisions. Mitie’s customers will receive real-time operational intelligence and can also opt-in to enhanced intelligence sharing with other businesses and the Police to tackle wider crime issues.

Mitie sows the seeds of biodiverse landscapes with flowering lawn trials

Mitie has introduced two flowering lawn trials in Leuchars, Scotland and Dudley. A middle ground between traditional grass and wildflower meadows, flowering lawns provide a biodiverse, neat, and easy to maintain solution for commercial landscapes. The trials are taking place across two locations and have been cultivated using three methods, in order to determine the best technique for different climates.
