Mitie strengthens heat pump services with former RMS team
- Mitie enhances its capability to manage the design, development, installation and maintenance of heat decarbonisation solutions by bringing in-house fabrication and heat pump expertise from RMS
- The move strengthens Mitie’s ability to deliver turnkey heat decarbonisation projects for private and public sector clients
- Over 20 specialists from RMS will join Mitie’s Projects business as part of Mitie’s growing energy and decarbonisation portfolio including G2, Rock Power Connections and Custom Solar
Mitie is enhancing its capability to self-deliver the design, development, installation and maintenance of heat decarbonisation solutions by welcoming 20 specialists from the former RMS team to its Projects business. The move will enable Mitie to strengthen its decarbonisation technical capability by bringing in-house fabrication and heat pump expertise from RMS.
The RMS team brings specialist expertise in renewable micro solutions which includes heat pumps, packaged plant rooms, microgrid design and operation, together with the integration of renewable energy solutions in the UK market. The addition of the team to Mitie’s Projects business will enable Mitie to provide full-service heat pump design, fabrication, and installation capabilities together with wider heat solutions, underpinning Mitie’s position as a leading decarbonisation delivery partner.
This strategic move broadens Mitie’s service offering for both existing and new customers across private and public sectors, particularly in health, education, local authority and industrial sectors. It will also significantly strengthen Mitie’s in-house delivery of low-carbon energy solutions, enabling it to support clients, as they retrofit, or install new heat systems, reinforcing its role in driving the UK’s energy transition.
The RMS team’s technical experience and proven design and installation expertise will complement Mitie’s existing Projects business, which delivers comprehensive engineering services including: mechanical and electrical installations, renewable energy solutions and building upgrade projects. The move will enhance Mitie’s growing energy and decarbonisation portfolio including G2, ESM, Custom Solar and Rock Power Connections.
Mark Caskey, Managing Director Projects, Mitie, said:
“This is an important strategic move for Mitie, enabling us to strengthen our heat decarbonisation offering for our customers alongside our existing capabilities in energy, decarbonisation and electrical engineering. The specialist knowledge and expertise that the former RMS team brings is a fantastic addition to support our customers with their decarbonisation ambitions.”
The UK market for heat decarbonisation solutions for commercial and industrial buildings is worth £1.1bn and is predicted to grow at 30% annually over the medium term. This growth is being supported by funding frameworks, across various government schemes which has allocated £3.7bn, to invest in heat decarbonisation solutions over the next few years, in the industrial and public sectors. Recent developments in the UK industrial strategy has reduced the electricity costs for major industrial users, making it more cost-effective to invest in and operate low carbon heat networks fed by heat pumps
