How we deliver the exceptional, every day
Our culture is underpinned by our Purpose and Promises.
Purpose:
Our expertise, care, technology and insight create amazing work environments, helping our customers to be exceptional every day.
Promise to our customers:
A trusted partner creating exceptional environments for your customers and people, adding value every day.
Promise to our colleagues:
A place to work where you can thrive and be your best every day.
There are five core values that shape how we behave at Mitie:
- We are one Mitie
- We are built on integrity and trust
- We go the extra mile
- Our diversity makes us stronger
- Our customers’ business, is our business
We believe our diverse workforce makes us stronger, introducing us to fresh ways of thinking. We also believe everyone should have the opportunity to progress.
Our colleague networks offer members a safe and confidential space to discuss issues affecting them, help improve our policies and procedures and keep in touch with external policy developments.
Each of our dedicated groups – on age, gender equality, disability and for BAME and LGBTQ+ colleagues, among others – is sponsored by a senior leader who advocates for diversity and inclusion and promotes the agenda across the Group.
We are proud to be recognised as number 6 on the UK Top 50 inclusive companies list.
As at 5 April 2022 (the snapshot date for this report), the Mitie median gender pay gap has increased slightly to 6.8% (from 5.4%) but is still below the UK average of 14.9% (ONS). The mean pay gap is 11.96%.
At Mitie, we strongly believe that being transparent about the diversity and pay of our workforce is an important step towards creating meaningful change. For the second year we are voluntarily disclosing the ethnicity pay gap as at 5 April 2022. We have followed the same reporting methodology used to report our statutory gender pay gap when calculating the ethnicity pay gap.
Our median ethnicity pay gap, which is the difference in the midpoints of the ranges of hourly rates of pay for white and racially diverse colleagues has reduced from 2.8% in 2021 to 1.1%.
Representing colleagues from all walks of life including 149 nationalities, over 20,000 females, colleagues living with disabilities and neurodiversity, colleagues identifying as LGBTQ+, parents, carers, veterans, and reservists. We welcome the different experiences, insights, skills and expertise our colleagues bring, helping us deliver the exceptional, every day. We recognise that our diversity makes us stronger.
Our ambition is to represent the diversity of our communities and customers among our workforce, from the frontline to the boardroom, by 2025. To achieve this we have set ourselves some bold commitments. We continue to make solid progress against our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion goals which support our aspiration to be the destination employer in the facilities management industry.

Mitie Stars
Our people deliver the exceptional every day. That’s why we prioritise saying thank you for their hard work.
Our annual award scheme, Mitie Stars, is dedicated to recognising the teams and individuals that go above and beyond for customers or colleagues.
Living Wage
We want our people to feel valued – and we understand that fair pay is important to our colleagues.
All colleagues directly employed by Mitie receive the real Living Wage as we are a Recognised Service Provider with the Living Wage Foundation, and we provide a real living wage option for all our new bids and encourage clients to sign up to the real Living Wage where they can.
Apprenticeships
We have over 570 apprentices working across our portfolio of contracts.
In the last financial year, we paid £5m into the Apprenticeship Levy scheme and we are now partnering with specialist providers to ensure we deliver the highest quality learning that meets the needs of both the individual and the business.
Mitie Sales Academy
In January 2019, we launched our year-long sales apprenticeship scheme, the Mitie Sales Academy. We trained 12 recruits and helped them achieve a Level Four sales certification from the Association of Professional Sales (APS). This new project, which lays the groundwork for future professional apprenticeship programmes, was made possible thanks to Apprenticeship Levy funding.
Learning Hub
In 2018, we launched ‘Learning Hub’, our dedicated learning platform for colleagues. It contains an extensive library of titles from Active Listening to Writing Reports and covers a wide range of topics from Business Skills to Wellbeing at Work. With videos, audio, games and quizzes available, the content caters different learning preferences.
