Elvedin’s story at Mitie

This is Elvedin Zdralovic’s story, Operations Manager at Mitie.

After years working in security, Elvedin needed a new challenge. Since joining Mitie, he has completed a management apprenticeship and rapidly progressed to the role of Operations Manager, picking up several Mitie Star Awards along the way.

What’s your Mitie story?

“I’ve worked in security for a number of years across various organisations. If I’m honest, at times I saw it as a bit of a ‘dead end’ job. Since I joined Mitie in 2017, I’ve progressed quickly, building a solid career that I love!

“I started as security officer and was quickly asked to act as a relief supervisor. I was often asked to go to various sites that were experiencing issues and act as a ‘trouble shooter’. This led to a permanent supervisor position.

“I knew that I wanted to progress within the organisation and took the opportunity to complete a Level 3 Management Apprenticeship. It was tough, juggling studying with full time work. Due to the pandemic, it also took longer than planned to complete the course – but I got there! As challenging as it was, I learnt so many skills that I was able to take back to the workplace, including better communication with our customers and better management of the team.

“My manager has been really supportive throughout – coaching and training me in some of the practical skills I’d need to work in management. This year, I started my current role of Operations Manager. I can’t believe how far I’ve come!”

How have you been recognised and rewarded for your work?

“I’ve received a number of Mitie Stars over the years, but, just as importantly, a job well done is always acknowledged which I really appreciate.”

What advice would you give to others embarking on a career with Mitie?

“Go for it! There are so many opportunities at Mitie – its rapidly growing. And remember, small steps lead to a better future!”
