Mitie awarded Disability Confident Leader status
- Mitie has been awarded Disability Confident Level 3 – Leader status, the highest level of the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme, recognising its leadership in disability inclusion
- Led by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), the Disability Confident scheme supports employers to recruit, retain and develop disabled people and those with long-term health conditions
- The recognition demonstrates how disability inclusion underpins Mitie’s wider commitments to supporting people facing barriers to employment into sustainable work
Mitie has been formally recognised as a Disability Confident Leader (Level 3) – the highest accreditation available under the UK Government’s Disability Confident scheme, led by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). Achieving Level 3 status reflects sustained progress across the business to strengthen disability inclusion, inclusive recruitment and workplace support.
Since April 2025, Mitie has seen a 14% increase in the absolute number of colleagues disclosing a disability, a positive indicator of growing psychological safety and trust across the organisation. This progress has been supported by a range of initiatives, including the launch of the ‘This is Me’ campaign, which encourages colleagues to share their diversity data, and highlights the benefits of disclosure. Mitie has also introduced the Sunflower Lanyard initiative to promote understanding and inclusivity for colleagues with non‑visible disabilities or long‑term health conditions.
Mitie’s approach to disability inclusion forms a core part of its wider Social Value commitments, supporting people who face barriers to employment into sustainable work. Through the Mitie Foundation’s Ready2Work programme, the business supports people facing barriers to employment – including disabled people, those with learning needs, veterans and the long‑term unemployed – into sustainable work. This inclusive approach strengthens local communities, supports social mobility and ensures opportunities are accessible to a broader and more representative workforce.
Sim Sian, Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Mitie, said:
“Being recognised as a Disability Confident Leader reflects how inclusion has become increasingly a central part of the way we operate as a business, from improving confidence around disclosure and access to reasonable adjustments, to strengthening the capability of managers and creating clearer pathways into work.
“This recognition builds on the meaningful progress we have already made and reflects a culture grounded in trust, action and a shared ambition to help people facing barriers build sustainable careers.”
