Mitie wins contract with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust
- Mitie has won a five-year competitive retender, with the option to extend for a further two years, to continue delivering facilities management and catering services for Stamford and Rutland Hospital and several FM services for Hinchingbrooke Hospital
- The contract is worth £4.2 million a year and will also see Mitie delivering cleaning services to four of Peterborough City Hospital’s non-PFI buildings
- All Mitie frontline employees working on the contract will be uplifted to the Real Living Wage
Mitie has strengthened its twelve-year relationship with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with a new five-year contract to deliver facilities management and catering services for all of the Trust’s hospitals. The contract is worth £4.2 million a year and has the option to extend for up to two further years.
The contract will see Mitie continue to provide cleaning, grounds maintenance, security, linen and laundry and helpdesk services for Hinchingbrooke Hospital and Stamford and Rutland Hospital. Mitie will also provide portering and catering for Stamford and Rutland Hospital and will now start delivering cleaning services to four of Peterborough City Hospital’s buildings.
Almost 130 Mitie employees will work to deliver services across the three hospitals. As part of the contract, Mitie and North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust have committed to uplift all Mitie frontline colleagues to at least the Real Living Wage.
Mitie will also be launching a new on-site healthcare training academy to offer career development opportunities for employees, through hands-on and classroom-based training from the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc). This is part of Mitie’s programme to create a network of BICSc accredited training academies in Hospital Trusts where Mitie delivers cleaning services.
As part of the contract, Mitie will provide the Trust’s site managers with access to a reporting platform. Through this platform, the Trust will be able to access detailed activity logs, including number of jobs carried out and time spent on each task. This will help improve visibility and ensure the Trust is always up to date on the work being carried out across its sites.
Technology has been central to the services Mitie has been delivering for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Indeed, in 2017, Mitie rolled-out its first robot cleaner to the Hinchingbrooke Hospital. The robot, nicknamed ‘Moptimus Prime’, uses a mapping system to guide it around the hospital and motion sensors to detect obstacles on its way, so that Mitie employees can concentrate on more complex tasks.
With sustainability a priority, Moptimus Prime has been fitted with an ozone cleaning system to deliver chemical-free cleaning and uses less water and energy than traditional cleaning machines. As part of its efforts to reduce the impact on the environment, Mitie has also committed to only using cleaning products in pre-dosed sachets to limit the amount of chemicals used. The sachets are made of 100% recyclable material to help reduce waste from packaging.
Jacinto Jesus, Director, Healthcare, Mitie, said:
“We’re proud to have extended our twelve-year partnership with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. Since the pandemic started, our frontline colleagues have been working tirelessly to deliver key services to help keep patients and staff safe, so we are pleased that this will be recognised with the commitment to increase pay to at least the Real Living Wage. We look forward to using our expertise and technology solutions to continue delivering a service that supports the critical work of the Trust.”
Phil Walmsley, Chief Operating Officer, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“Following a robust procurement process, we are pleased to be working with Mitie to ensure our patients and staff will benefit from good quality support services in our hospitals that make a real difference to their experience.”
