Mitie Care & Custody awarded 8-year contract to manage Dungavel immigration removal centre on behalf of the Home Office

The contract includes significant improvements to the previous contract including more staff on site to improve safety and welfare of both residents and staff, a dedicated welfare team available daily to focus on residents’ needs and the ability to increase or decrease the number of residents being housed at the IRC at one time.

These improvements are just one part of the Home Office strategy to modernise the immigration detention estate and create a better, safer environment for those in our care in line with Stephen Shaw’s reviews of welfare in immigration detention.

Paul Morrison, Immigrations Services Director said:

“Dungavel is an IRC in South Lanarkshire where our Escorting Services already operate a vehicle base, and I am looking forward to integrating this with the management of the IRC. This, and our recent Derwentside IRC contract win undoubtedly represents an increased presence in the immigration market and the Home Office trust in our ability to deliver a high level of service whilst creating a safe and trusted environment.”
