In a conscious break from its policy, IKEA chose to switch to Mitie from using the same European security provider as it uses outside of the UK. The services Mitie provides include:

  • Manned guarding
  • Gate duties
  • Vehicle and individual searches
  • Managing the security control room

Mitie is improving IKEA’s future security model by modernising its CCTV operations and identifying and conducting technical and systems reviews across all IKEA’s retail sites and two distribution centres. This model will also support IKEA with its retail specific training and advanced customer service.

In support of IKEA’s commitment to the Living Wage Foundation and Mitie’s own Mitie Rewards scheme, employees will, over time, receive staff benefits and increased pay.

Comments from IKEA mobilisation period:

“This is the second time I’ve been party to this process with security providers and I am happy to say I’ve been really impressed by the care and attention Mitie has given the team here in Lakeside.

In the previous process we did not see the new provider until the day of transfer, which resulted in almost all of the incumbent officers choosing to leave. Mitie management have been here a dozen times in the run up to the takeover date, ensuring they met every single officer as well as spending time with myself taking me through the process and Mitie’s expectations and culture.
