A smarter, sustainable future: Evolving Mitie’s supplier management programme
Over 60% of Mitie’s addressable procurement spend is now managed through our Supplier Management Programme (SMP), a system designed to ensure that suppliers align with our Supplier Management Framework and sustainability goals, and deliver long-term value.
In FY26, we continued our focus on embedding collaboration with suppliers towards shared goals and value delivery through SMP. With the Marlowe integration progressing to plan, we focused on deepening governance, improving data quality, and strengthening the ESG performance of our existing supplier base.
Key developments during the year included:
- Launch of the Sustainability and Social Value Supplier Charter establishing clear, publicly communicated expectations for all Mitie suppliers across environmental performance, social responsibility and ethical conduct, representing a shift from compliance-based management to active partnership
- Expanded EcoVadis coverage with more than 850 suppliers in our network, representing over 50% of addressable spend, providing real-time visibility into environmental, ethical and labour standards
- Continued Coupa platform development, delivering sharper insights through automated dashboards and streamlining the onboarding process for Marlowe suppliers transitioning into the SMP
- Enhanced supply chain emissions reporting, with improved supplier data inputs supporting more accurate Scope 3 estimation and targeted decarbonisation engagement
Our strategy is not simply about managing suppliers, it is about forming partnerships that drive sustainable value. Through collaboration, continuous improvement and a strong ESG foundation, we are committed to leading the way in ethical and responsible supply chain management.
Our SMP strategic objectives
Our Supplier Management Programme is structured around five strategic objectives that together ensure suppliers deliver not just commercial value, but environmental and social value too:
1. Working together
Build collaboration and take action to improve together. We establish clear communication channels, define key personnel and escalation routes, and ensure suppliers are not only aware of our ESG goals but are active participants in achieving them.
2. Delivery rating – operational performance
Optimise service: On Time, Every Time. We continuously monitor and evaluate supplier performance against key performance indicators, ensuring high-quality, reliable delivery with clear processes for swift resolution when issues arise.
3. Value for money – total cost of ownership
Evaluate cost-efficiency alongside environmental impact, striving to deliver value sustainably by identifying and realising cost-saving initiatives that also incorporate environmental and social considerations.
4. Ethical and responsible supply (ESG)
Meeting social value targets for an ethical and responsible supply chain. Rigorous supplier assessments and continuous monitoring ensure our partners uphold our ESG standards, implement carbon reduction plans and prioritise reusability, repairability and recyclability.
5. Quality and safety (QHSE)
Proactively manage quality and safety and drive continuous improvement through regular reviews, swift incident resolution and adherence to the highest QHSE standards throughout the supply base.
Independently verified, collectively achieved: Supply chain emissions
We are proud to report a further reduction in our supply chain emissions in FY26, independently verified by Achilles. This progress reflects our continued investment in supplier engagement, improved data quality, and the deepening of our hybrid emissions measurement approach, combining publicly available supplier information with the environmentally extended input-output (EEIO) model.
In FY26, we included EEIO assessment categories into our Digital Supplier Platform, enabling us to assess emissions data for suppliers regularly as needed. We also collated emissions and revenue verified data directly from suppliers, enabling us to meet our target coverage across our supplier spend. This approach supports more accurate reporting and targeted engagement with suppliers on their own decarbonisation journeys.
We continue to engage our supply chain on decarbonisation through our annual carbon questionnaire, enabling us to identify opportunities for collaboration and performance improvement. This supports our medium-term target for 60% of suppliers by spend, covering purchased goods and services and upstream transportation and distribution, to have science-based targets by FY27. As of FY26, 24% of suppliers within this scope have adopted science-based targets, demonstrating progress towards this goal. We will proactively engage suppliers throughout FY27 to accelerate uptake and drive further alignment with our decarbonisation ambitions.
Building supplier confidence through digital engagement
FY26 saw continued momentum on our Mitie Supplier Portal (mitiesuppliers.com), with the platform recording 14,821 portal views during the year as more suppliers, including those newly onboarded from the Marlowe integration, accessed onboarding guidance, compliance resources and ESG alignment tools.
Our Digital Supplier Platform, powered by Coupa, continues to transform how we procure. By automating procurement processes and focusing spend through our trusted Preferred Supplier List, we have maintained a lean, high-quality supplier base while keeping pace with business growth. By switching to digital purchase orders, we continued to reduce paper consumption by eliminating the need for printed purchase orders across our procurement processes.
Our onboarding process ensures that every new supplier aligns with Mitie’s Values, operational standards and sustainability goals from the outset, completing a New Supplier Information Request, agreeing to our Social Value Policy, and meeting compliance requirements across health and safety, insurance and financial stability. All UK on-site contractors are required to hold SafeContractor accreditation, embedding rigorous safety, compliance and sustainability checks into contractor requirements as standard.

Driving sustainability through smarter supplier management
Mitie continues to deepen its use of the EcoVadis platform, integrated into our SMP to enable independent, standardised assessments of suppliers’ environmental, social and ethical performance. The platform streamlines data collection across four key areas: Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement, supporting compliance with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and alignment with the UN SDGs.
In FY26, the SMP covers over 900 key suppliers, representing more than 60% of Mitie’s procurement addressable spend. Suppliers are evaluated using structured scorecards that include sustainability metrics, ensuring alignment with Mitie’s high standards.
Key benefits of our EcoVadis integration include greater transparency and early identification of ESG risks, actionable insights to help suppliers improve, stronger compliance with ESG regulations and reporting standards, and reinforcement of our ESG strategy, including Scope 3 emissions management.
Supply Chain Sustainability School
Mitie continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability through collaboration and shared learning through our partnership with the Supply Chain Sustainability School (SCSS). This partnership enables the delivery of targeted training and engagement campaigns for both colleagues and suppliers, covering key areas such as modern slavery, carbon reduction, biodiversity and social value.
In FY26, we built on existing learning pathways by making full use of our allocated workshops and integrating SCSS resources into Mitie’s Learning and Development platform. These were tailored for our LiveSafe champions, supporting increased awareness and capability in environmental topics, including carbon reduction and energy management.
We also continue to contribute to, and benefit from, wider industry collaboration through active participation in four SCSS working groups: Built Environment Against Slavery, Social Value, Nature & Recovery and Facilities Management & Property. Alongside webinars, workshops and panel events, these initiatives provide accessible learning opportunities for colleagues and suppliers, helping to drive improved sustainability standards across the built environment.
