Plan Zero initiatives
Mitie’s Plan Zero is the Group’s strategic framework for decarbonising its own operations through integrated delivery and low-carbon design. Launched in 2020, it sets out a structured pathway to Net Zero by targeting Scope 1 and 2 emissions through operational change and engineered solutions.
Over the past five years, this has translated into a wide range of practical initiatives across the estate. These include replacing gas-fired boilers with heat pumps, rolling out LED lighting upgrades, installing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and introducing solar car ports – alongside the wider electrification of our vehicle fleet and continued transition to renewable energy. Together, these projects demonstrate a shift from fossil-fuel dependent infrastructure towards low-carbon alternatives, while also optimising assets, infrastructure and services to reduce overall energy demand and carbon impact.

Fleet of the future
Fleet electrification remains one of the most significant opportunities for organisations to reduce operational emissions while supporting the transition to a low-carbon economy. Through its Plan Zero strategy, Mitie continues to expand the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs).

Encouraging greener commutes
