People progress
At Mitie, our vision is to be the destination employer in our industry, creating a Great Place to Work and a truly inclusive culture where our people are supported to achieve their full potential. With over 84,000 colleagues working across the UK, Ireland and Spain, that vision shapes every decision we make about how we recruit, develop, reward and look after our people.
As one of the UK’s largest employers, our colleagues are at the heart of everything we do. They are essential to our success and that of our customers, and they make a meaningful contribution to the wider economy. We put their safety and wellbeing first, and we are unwavering in our commitment to Zero Harm, not as a compliance standard but as a reflection of how much we value the people who deliver for our customers every day.
We are committed to making Mitie a place where careers are nurtured, achievements are recognised, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Our people strategy is underpinned by bold targets that drive progress on diversity, fair pay and access to market-leading benefits. We invest in learning and development at every level, from apprenticeships to leadership programmes, and we embed respect for human rights through robust policies and training across the business.
We regularly engage with our colleagues through surveys, listening sessions and frontline conversations, ensuring their voices shape how we lead and manage the business. And as we look ahead, we remain focused on building the skills needed for the future, integrating new colleagues following the Marlowe acquisition, and delivering the positive impact for society that our scale makes possible.

100%
Real Living Wage accreditation for all employees
Our progress in FY26
In FY26, we continued to build on our commitment to creating a great place to work, while navigating the significant integration of new colleagues following the Marlowe acquisition in August 2025. We maintained our 100% Real Living Wage accreditation for all employees where Mitie controls pay, and our MyVoice engagement survey recorded a score of 74%, an 11-percentage point improvement on the prior year, reflecting sustained investment in colleague recognition, development and communication.
We made strong progress in learning and development. Over 1,800 colleagues were supported through apprenticeships across more than 120 programmes, with more than £7.5m of levy funding invested and an 89% learner success rate, well above the government benchmark of 60%. We were recognised as a Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer for the fourth consecutive year, ranking 16th nationally.
Our Zero Harm culture delivered some of its strongest external recognition to date. We recorded zero fatalities across our own workforce and became the only business currently in the FTSE 250 to hold the British Safety Council Five Star Award, alongside 19 RoSPA Gold Awards, including, for the first time, a Group-wide Gold for overall health and safety.
On inclusion, we were ranked 10th in the Inclusive Top 50 UK Employers list and achieved Disability Confident Leader status at Level 3. Our diversity networks collectively surpassed 1,500 members each, and our This is Me campaign reached 100% completion of gender and ethnicity data. We are making progress on our diversity leadership targets, with female representation in senior leadership increasing to 32% and racially diverse representation reaching 18%, while recognising further progress is needed to achieve our respective ambitions of 40% and 20%.
For the sixth consecutive year, we awarded free shares to frontline colleagues, this year as a double award of 8.6 million shares, reinforcing our commitment to ensuring that every colleague shares in Mitie's success.
