Giving Back
To support our communities, Mitie provides all salaried colleagues with 10 hours annually to volunteer for causes they are passionate about or to participate in national charity campaigns. This initiative empowers our colleagues to dedicate time to meaningful activities that make a real difference, and it is a cornerstone of how we deliver on our Plan Thrive pledges to uplift lives and enable places to prosper.
In FY26, colleagues dedicated 35,706 volunteering hours, our strongest performance to date. Through Group-wide volunteering events, local community partnerships, skills-based volunteering and national charity campaigns, colleagues across every division and region played their part in making Mitie’s communities stronger.
The future of Giving Back
In FY27, the Foundation will relaunch its volunteering offer, supported by a new platform, WhatImpact, a Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisation that supports other VCSEs. This will provide Mitie colleagues with more and enhanced volunteering opportunities aligned to Plan Thrive, with a stronger focus on skills-based, campaign-aligned and place-based activity. The relaunch is intended to strengthen participation, improve reporting, and better align volunteering to community need.

The Giving Tree – GiftBack 2025 ESG snapshot
Mitie supported the Team London Bridge GiftBack 2025 campaign through The Giving Tree, donating approximately 100 gifts to individuals and families in need during the festive period. This contributed to a wider initiative delivering over 3,000 gifts to seven charities. The programme generated £38,000+ in economic value and saw 1,403 gifts wrapped in 12 volunteer hours. With 40+ low-emission deliveries via cargo bikes, the initiative combined social and environmental impact, while strengthening community partnerships.

Making a difference at Crownfield Junior School: Technical Services volunteering in action
Colleagues from our Technical Services team at Romford Rail Operating Centre and One Stratford Place partnered with Crownfield Junior School in Romford to deliver a targeted volunteering initiative, demonstrating how our skills can create meaningful local impact. Led by Rich Stanton and supported by Dale Chalney and Matt Morris, the team dedicated two days on site, completing essential maintenance works that improved the learning environment for pupils and staff.
The team refreshed three main corridors, the reception area and some classrooms with new paint and repaired eight faulty light fittings, enhancing both the appearance and safety of the school. In total, 64 volunteering hours were delivered, with materials generously provided by supplier CEF. This support enabled the school to avoid approximately £1,500 in maintenance costs, allowing resources to be redirected towards educational priorities.
Feedback from the school highlighted the value of the initiative, with Head Teacher, Gillian Horne noting: “The improvements have made such a difference to our school environment. The team’s professionalism and generosity were outstanding, and our pupils and staff are thrilled with the results.”
This initiative shows the power of using our professional skills to create real social value. By working together and engaging with local schools, we’re not only supporting education but also inspiring others across Mitie to find meaningful ways to give back.
