Trading towards Net Zero
Delivering environmental market solutions to support decarbonisation
As organisations progress towards Net Zero, reducing emissions remains the priority. However, many businesses continue to face residual emissions that cannot yet be eliminated through operational improvements alone. Environmental market instruments can play an important role in addressing these emissions while supporting wider decarbonisation strategies.
Mitie’s Energy and Carbon Management team provides expertise across environmental markets, helping organisations access and manage instruments such as Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs) and Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM) credits in a transparent and risk-managed way.
Building environmental market capability
During FY26, Mitie continued to develop and embed its in-house environmental markets capability, strengthening the governance, reporting processes and market access arrangements required to support participation in renewable energy and carbon markets.
This capability supports Mitie’s own requirements as part of its wider Plan Zero strategy, while also creating opportunities to support customers seeking greater visibility and control over environmental market procurement.
By bringing market expertise in-house, Mitie can provide a structured approach to managing environmental market activity, helping ensure robust governance and improved transparency.
Supporting clients through the energy transition
As demand for renewable electricity and carbon market solutions continues to grow, organisations increasingly require support to navigate evolving markets and procurement approaches.
Mitie’s environmental markets capability enables customers to access market insight, procurement support and execution services through a single partner, helping organisations make informed decisions aligned to their decarbonisation objectives.
Looking ahead, Mitie plans to expand access to these services through an aggregated procurement approach, creating opportunities for a broader range of organisations to participate in environmental markets and access risk-managed REGO procurement.
Enabling progress towards Net Zero
Environmental market instruments remain one component of Mitie’s wider decarbonisation strategy, sitting alongside operational carbon reduction initiatives across energy, fleet, buildings and supply chains.
Through continued investment in environmental market expertise, Mitie is strengthening its ability to support both its own Net Zero ambitions and those of its customers, helping organisations navigate an increasingly complex decarbonisation landscape.
At a glance
- In-house environmental markets capability established and expanded
- Supports procurement of REGOs and VCM credits
- Governance and reporting processes strengthened during FY26

Over the last year, our focus has been on building the capability, governance and market access needed to support environmental market execution in a robust and transparent way. That groundwork now gives us a strong platform to support Mitie’s own requirements, while also enabling us to support a broader group of customers through solutions such as a consortium approach to procurement, where access to smaller-volume REGO execution can often be limited.
