Our ESG progress in FY26

This year, we completed Phase One of Plan Zero, reaching an effective Net Zero position on Scope 1 and 2 emissions and transitioning 67% of our fleet to electric, milestones I am genuinely proud of. But the measure of Mitie is not only our carbon reduction: it is the 35,706 volunteering hours our colleagues gave to their communities, the 1,800 apprenticeships we supported, the free shares issued to frontline workers for the sixth consecutive year, and the Royal Warrant awarded to our cleaning colleagues for their service to the Royal Household. Better Places; Thriving Communities is not a tagline, it is how we run this business. I am personally committed to every target in this report, environmental and social, and to the 84,000 colleagues who make it possible.

Purpose in action
At Mitie, our purpose, Better Places; Thriving Communities, is not simply a statement of intent. It shapes our strategy, informs our decisions, and inspires our colleagues to create positive impact for customers, communities, and the environment. In FY26, that purpose was tested by the scale of our growth, and I am proud to say it held firm.
Plan Zero: Phase One delivered
This year marked the conclusion of Phase One of Plan Zero; our five‑year decarbonisation initiative launched in 2020. At 31 March 2026, 67% of our fleet had transitioned to electric vehicles (EVs), with 6,406 EVs in operation, more than 2,400 vehicles beyond our original expectations, even as the fleet expanded significantly through organic growth and acquisition. Alongside 100% renewable electricity procurement for our estate and EV charging, we have achieved an effectively Net Zero position for Scope 1 and 2 emissions on a market-based reported basis. That is a significant milestone. And while we acknowledge it does not yet meet the stricter Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) definition of Net Zero, it represents a credible, transparent and substantial step forward.
The acquisition of Marlowe in August 2025 transformed the scale of our business, adding 1,900 fossil fuel vehicles to our fleet and materially expanding our operational footprint. Rather than obscure this complexity, we have chosen to re-baseline our emissions and set a fresh, credible trajectory for Plan Zero 2.0, one that reflects the Mitie of today and provides a robust platform for deeper, long-term decarbonisation across Scopes 1, 2 and 3. Our new emissions-intensity target, running from FY26 to FY31, sets out a clear pathway to a 50% absolute reduction by 2030, aligned to the enlarged Group.
Recognition and social impact
For the third consecutive year, we have been recognised on the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) Climate A List. We achieved overall winner and Platinum status in the Sustainable Facilities Management Index, and our EcoVadis rating improved to 80, validating the quality of our disclosures and governance, while reminding us that ratings are a means, not an end.
The impact of Plan Thrive is also being recognised beyond Mitie. We were ranked 16th in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers and awarded Ambassador Status, the highest level of recognition under the Social Recruitment Advocacy Group Chartermark. Across the Group, colleagues dedicated 35,706 volunteering hours to local communities, surpassing our target of 25,000. Over 1,800 colleagues were supported through apprenticeships, with more than £7.5m of levy funding invested. We issued free shares to frontline colleagues for the sixth consecutive year and completed 632,962 learning courses across the Group. These are not footnotes to our financial results; they are integral to how we earn and sustain our licence to operate.
A Royal Warrant and a responsible business
I am also delighted to share that, in May 2026, Mitie Cleaning & Environmental Services Limited was granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to His Majesty King Charles III. This is a deeply proud moment for Mitie and a testament to the dedication, professionalism and consistently high standards delivered by our colleagues who support the Royal Household, a relationship built over more than five consecutive years. Royal Warrants are widely regarded as a mark of trust, quality and excellence, and this recognition sits alongside our broader commitment to delivering outstanding service to every customer we serve, in every environment where we work.
Building an inclusive future
Inclusion remains both a strength and an area where we must do more. Our ranking as the 10th Top Inclusive Employer demonstrates that progress is being recognised externally, but we know there is more to do. We made further progress with racially diverse representation in leadership reaching 18%, moving closer to our 20% target.Women in leadership, at 32%, remains short of our 40% ambition. We are candid about this and are strengthening the pipeline of female talent through targeted development, diversity targets at middle management level and enhanced succession planning.
Our ambitious FY31 targets
Our new strategic Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) targets for FY26 to FY31 represent our most ambitious commitments to date. They encompass the full scope of the enlarged Group, are aligned to the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are designed to be measurable, transparent and stretching. We hold ourselves to these commitments publicly, and I am personally committed to their delivery.
Plan Zero 2.0: The next chapter
Underpinning all of this is our Climate Transition Plan, a Board-approved framework embedded in our strategy, capital allocation and financial planning. It is not a document that sits on a shelf; it is the mechanism through which our decarbonisation commitments are translated into operational decisions, investment priorities and supplier expectations. Phase One is delivered. Phase Two, Plan Zero 2.0, now begins from a re-baselined, credible starting point that reflects the Mitie of today. Our near-term focus is Scope 3, where progress depends on supplier engagement, data maturity and operational change across our value chain. We will resubmit to the SBTi for a validated target trajectory aligned to 1.5°C and the FY26 baseline. The Climate Transition Plan gives our customers, investors and colleagues the confidence that our Net Zero ambitions are not aspirational statements, but structured, governed and funded commitments.
Thanks to our colleagues
I want to thank every one of our 84,000 colleagues for the role they play in making Mitie a business that is genuinely proud of how it operates, not just what it delivers.
