Strengthening social value through supply chain partnerships

Retinue
Delivering responsible recruitment and social value at scale
As one of Mitie’s integrated suppliers, Retinue plays a critical role in delivering responsible recruitment, workforce compliance and social value across our operations. Operating across 380 Mitie contracts in 2025, the partnership shows how close supplier collaboration can generate real environmental, social and governance impact alongside strong business performance.
Managing compliance at scale
Recruiting and deploying large numbers of workers across diverse locations brings real challenges, around compliance, ethical recruitment and workforce wellbeing. Mitie and Retinue have built robust processes to address them, including comprehensive compliance checks, supplier assurance activity and modern slavery risk management.
Widening access to employment
Beyond workforce management, the partnership delivers meaningful social value by widening access to employment. Working with organisations including Jobcentre Plus, Communities and Housing Investment in People (CHIP), Skills Academy and the Mitie Foundation, Retinue helps connect underrepresented groups with sustainable employment opportunities.
Partnerships across 16 Jobcentre Plus locations in England and Scotland have supported the onboarding of temporary workers, while referral programmes and community initiatives have helped create routes into work for people facing employment barriers.
Supporting diversity and environmental ambition
Retinue also supports Mitie’s diversity, equity and inclusion commitments through workforce monitoring, supplier diversity programmes and the promotion of SME and VCSE participation across the supply chain. Environmentally, Retinue has achieved EcoVadis accreditation and committed to reaching Net Zero by 2045 – aligning closely with Mitie’s own sustainability ambitions.
Together, Mitie and Retinue demonstrate how integrated supplier partnerships can deliver more than operational value, creating measurable ESG benefits for customers, communities and colleagues alike.

The wellbeing ripple effect: How Mitie helped 129 SMEs build healthier workplaces
Mitie partnered with external provider International Workplace to support a DWP‑funded Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Managing Occupational Health and Wellbeing training programme, aimed specifically at SMEs. The initiative was actively championed internally by colleagues in Occupational Health & Wellbeing and Procurement, with support from Social Value and Procurement teams to reach Mitie’s supply chain.
The email campaign to our eligible SME supply chain resulted in 129 registering for the training which was focused on improving line manager capability and confidence to manage mental health in the workplace.
For Mitie, this aligns directly with our Plan Thrive social value commitments, including our ambition to uplift one million lives and our contribution of 1,000 funded places, helping to improve workplace health, opportunity, and economic participation at scale. International Workplace acknowledged Mitie’s contribution to the campaign by inviting a testimonial from us to incorporate in their entry for the Wellbeing category at the Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management Awards.
